Product Code : JL-LE-10446
The Electroscope Gold Leaf (SKU JL-LE-10446, Cat. No. JSS-155/06) is a gold leaf electroscope housed in a rectangular sheet metal case on an insulated base. A removable disc electrode passes through a moulded plastic bush that stops charge leaking to the case, and a plated blade under the bush holds the gold leaf. A clear acrylic scale inside, graduated 0-90 degrees, lets charges be compared by deflection.

Experiments with the gold leaf electroscope
In electrostatics classes it is used for:
- Showing the presence and sign of charge on a charged rod
- Comparing charges by the leaf deflection on the 0-90 degree scale
- Ionisation demonstrations, with material placed in the chamber through the sliding front
Scope of supply and ordering
The electroscope comes assembled with two gold leaf sheets.
Frequently asked questions
How is a new gold leaf fitted?
The clear front slides up so a leaf can be fixed to the plated blade under the insulating bush; two gold leaf sheets are included.
What stops charge leaking away?
The disc electrode is mounted through a moulded plastic bush that insulates it from the metal case.
How large is it?
Assembled, it measures 6.5 x 3.75 x 2.75 inches.
