Uses of the smoking and varnishing outfit
In smoked-drum kymography the paper on the cylinder is coated with a thin layer of soot so that a lever point can scratch a trace, and after the experiment the tracing is varnished so it can be kept; the three listed models cover the smoking stage, and the separate varnishing tray covers the fixing stage.
