The plate bearing test equipment is used to estimate the bearing capacity of shallow foundations, for flexible pavement design and for load tests on soil and flexible pavement layers. A hydraulic jack with a fixed pumping unit applies up to 500 kN to mild steel bearing plates of 30, 45 and 60 cm, and settlement is read on four 0.01 mm dial gauges held from a 5 m bridge support (SKU JA-SM-8871).
